Hello! My name is Ben and I am your Mexico guide! I want to share my love for food, especially Mexican food, in this blog. I grew up surrounded by food. My family owned a restaurant in Mexico City for about 40 years and some of my most cherished memories from that period of my life are related to food. The aromas, flavors and colors of the food cooked at my parent’s fonda stayed with me even when I moved a couple of thousand miles away to the U.S.
I started blogging in 2007 to share my kitchen adventures, but overtime it became a lot more personal reconnecting me with my roots and culture. When I started cooking, and blogging about, authentic Mexican food in my American kitchen I realized that Mexican food is very misunderstood in the U.S. I wanted to learn more about this complex cuisine and share that knowledge with the readers of this blog. That’s one of the reasons I decided to return to Mexico in August 2010. Rediscovering the culture and food of my native country has been one of the most exciting and delicious experiences of my life.
Mexican food was designated by UNESCO as a world intangible cultural heritage in November 2010. This recognition has been very important for Mexican cuisine and I want to contribute to spreading the knowledge about it and its cultural importance. While doing this I have discovered a passion for Mexico and its food that I didn’t know I had before. It has also helped me to connect with a lot of people who have the same passion for Mexico and its food. I want to be part of the movement that will reshape the future of his country through culture, food and education.
The purpose of this blog is, firstly, to share what I learn about Mexico, its food and culture. However, I also want to show, with my writing and the lens of my camera, the Mexico that the news organizations refuse to show. The side of this country that attracts so many people each year to visit and move here.
Welcome to this magical country, to a Mexico full of color, music, laughter, traditions, history and delicious food. Let me take you on a virtual tour. And if you’re coming to Mexico, let me be your guide!
Welcome to Mexico and Buen Provecho!
