This is going to be a long post so please bear with me. I don’t like writing long posts but since I have been trying to stay away from the computer (my eyes and some of my joints were starting to suffer from long hours in front of the computer, besides the warm weather means lots of cleaning and fixing around the house) a couple of things have piled up that I need to take care of.

First. For this month’s Taste & Create event I was paired with geek of My Food Geek. There are a lot of great recipes I wanted to try on his blog, but for lack of time and procrastination I had to pick something easy and fast to make. I had never made pasta before and when I read this recipe and realized there was not much to it I went to the kitchen and made a batch of pasta. This is all you have to do:
Fresh Pasta
3 cups flour
4 eggs
pinch of saltIf you choose to make the pasta by hand, pile the flour on the counter top, make a well in the center, and crack the eggs into the well. Slowly incorporate the eggs into the flour until you can bring the dough together for kneading. You may need a little more flour, you may not use all the flour, it all depends on the day usually. Once the dough is smooth, let it rest for about 20 minutes and then roll out and shape as desired.
If you choose to make the pasta by machine, throw all the ingredients in a food processor and process on high. It should turn to a course meal. You may need to add either an additional egg or some olive oil to the food processor while it is running to get the dough to come together. Dump the pasta meal on the counter and knead for a minute or so. Let dough rest for about 20 minutes and then roll out and shape as desired.
Very easy, right? My pasta is still drying but I know what I am going to make with it. I will post that next week. Thanks geek for the recipe and thanks Nicole for the great event.
Second. Elle tagged me with a meme I have seen around on the blog-o-sphere for awhile. This is an easy a short one so I decided to play along. I have to write a Six Word Memoir which ended up being kind of hard, but here we go:
Quiet. Since I was a baby.
Inquisitive. Since the first radio I took apart to try to figure out how it worked.
Creative. Since the first mud cakes I “baked” in my sister’s magic oven (is that what they were called?)
Solitary. I don’t really know when this started. I just know that I’ve always liked solitude.
Avid reader. Since the first children’s book with no pictures I read when I was around 6 or 7. I don’t remember the title but it was about a girl with a magic yellow bag with magic objects inside. Then came Momo and I fell in love with books forever and ever.
Impatient I got impatient trying to come up with something for this last word.
Third. This humble blog has received three more awards from three readers that think it deserves it (I swear I am not secretly bribing anybody with Tupperware to receive these awards) Andy The New Cook and Elle of Elle’s New England Kitchen gave this blog the Excellent Award and my good (and always beautiful) friend Deeba of Passionate About Baking gave this blog the Blog of Distinction award. Thank you guys. I really appreciate that you think this blog is good enough for this kind of distinctions. Now it’s my turn to give these awards to 15 blogs out there. Sorry if I don’t write anything about these blogs. This post is getting too long already and I need to start dinner soon.
- Proud Italian Cook
- We are not Martha
- Tastes Like Home
- We are never full
- Baking Delights
- Chefs gone wild
- Cooking by the Seat of my Pants
- Eating Out Loud
- Fun and Food
- Kalofagas – Pursuit of delicious foods
I’d love to give every single one of the blogs I read an award, but that is not how this works. Hehehe. You guys know the rules and if you want to do the Six Word Memoir, please be go ahead. You know I don’t like to force people into memes.

I have been hesitant to make my own pasta because I don’t have a pasta machine. Yours sounds so easy. But do you think you need semolina flour?

Congrats on the awards! And I took radios (and toasters and various other things) apart, too. Much to my parents’ complete um…. delight… as you can imagine. I put them BACK together, though, after the first time.

Hi!
Great to see you have tried out making your own pasta, you should get one of the machines now like mine! It is really easy to use.
Good work on those awards as well, that is quite impressive!

He, he, it wasn’t that long, Ben! Is pasta that easy to perform? I’ll check what you come up with this week.
Very interesting your words in the meme. I enjoyed reading that. Thanks for sharing
