We foodies love to prepare food with many ingredients that have a strong odor. Fish, garlic, eggs and other ingredients can leave a mark behind in your kitchen utensils, glasses, plates and hands. I love those smells when dinner is cooking but I don’t want to carry them around everywhere I go. That’s why I always keep a lime next to my kitchen sink.
Lime juice is perfect to fight those odors. At my parents’ restaurant we always washed our hands with a little bit of lime juice after working with onions, fish, garlic and the dishwashers use them in glasses and plates with that peculiar egg smell that can make your stomach turn. Limes leave behind a particular smell, too. But I prefer the fresh smell of lime than the smell of rotten eggs and fish.
How do you fight bad odors in your kitchen?

I’ve found the best sure for stinky garlic/onion hands, assuming you have a stainless steel kitchen sink. Simply lather your hands with soap then rub your hands against the stainless steel, both front and back. Rinse and the garlic/onion smell will be gone. Something to do with the reaction with metal … too much science for me, but it works!

Thanks, I had no idea this worked.

I’m super sensitive to bad smells and will go to great lengths to get rid of them – I constantly spray my counters with vinegar/water solution, keep lemon slices in my dishwasher, clean my sink with baking soda. Now I’m going to try limes. Dya tink I’m just a tad obsessive?

My mom always had me wash my hands with lemon juice to get rid of smells. There are now these fake bars of soap, they are stainless steel heres a link to one at Crate and Barrel but you can now find them at most kitchen gadget stores. http://www.crateandbarrel.com/family.aspx?c=690&f=2774
I have not tried one yet, but they are supposed to work wonders on your hands.
