2080508623_ecc80b1b5f.jpg I am a late posting this entry! I was supposed to have sent it by the 15th, but other things got in the way (I really need a digital camera) But here it is, my first Taste and Create food event.

What is Taste and Create? It is a gathering point for the food-blogger community to come and have their recipes tested by their peers, as Nicole would say on her blog, For the Love of Food.

How does it work? Food bloggers from all over the world enter the event and get paired with another food blogger to browse, choose, prepare and blog about one recipe on their peer’s blog.

I was paired with Stef from Cupcake Project and I must say that I loved what I saw on her blog. I am not a cupcake person. I had never made cupcakes in my life before and I don’t really eat them that often. However, looking through her blog I saw so many interesting recipes I liked that I promised myself to start baking cupcakes at least once a year.

Choosing a recipe to make was a difficult decision. In cases like these I tend to go back to the basics, and what can be more basic for a Mexican guy than tequila? (Alright, alright it is a cliché and an stereotype. I really started drinking tequila hanging out with my American friends, go figure!) Yes, Margarita cupcakes. I must be in heaven!

The Margarita cupcakes recipe came originally from a book called Vegan Cupcakes Take Over the World. It was then blogged at Bakingsheet before they made their appearance on Stef’s blog.

I followed the recipe at Bakingsheet with the exception that I used regular milk instead of soymilk and a little bit more tequila for the cupcake mixture and the frosting and some green food coloring for the frosting. And also, since I hadn’t baked cupcakes before, I didn’t have muffin tins so I used a set of disposable foil cupcake pan and Christmas liners that I had had in my pantry for I don’t know how long.

I agree with Stef that the cupcake was kind of sweet and chewy, but the lime-tequila frosting part was REALLY good, especially if you double the amount of tequila. I don’t know if I would make this recipe again, but at least I got new ideas for the remaining tequila in that bottle (and it is not drinking shots!)

I am proud to have conquered another challenge, though my cupcakes didn’t look as pretty as the ones on Stef’s blog. I am sure that the next Taste and Create will bring a new challenge and a new opportunity to meet such interesting people.

  2. Wow! Margarita cupcakes. I had no idea. they sound divine Ben. Good on you for giving them a go and experimenting.

    • They were divine, especially since I used more tequila than the recipe called for. Hehehe. I will have to make them again for my next party.

  3. Hola Ben! Good for you! The Margarita cupcakes look wonderful! I didn’t know what a cupcake was until I saw yours. Have to cheek all these blogs you mention… I’ve never been there and it looks so interesting. Days should have 60 hours!!!!
    Salud!

    • Hola Núria,

I understand the day doesn’t have enough hours to check all the great food blogs there are out there. But sometimes we come across some great ones that we just have to stop and try their delicious alcoholic cupcakes. Hehehe

      Salud!

  4. They look so Christmas-y! I was in a cupcake baking contest a few months ago. I bought all of the ingredients, got home, and realized I forgot to buy the liners. I didn’t want to go back to the store, so I ended up using those very same Christmas ones, that were in my closet. Liners are liners, right?

I like the idea of margarita cupcakes. It makes me want to have a party.

    • Yes Emiline, liners are liners and I had to use those before going out for new ones. But probably I will be using them more often so I will have all kinds of them. Hehe.

  5. This looks so delicious!

    • They were delicious. I still have some and they are begging me to eat them. Hehehe. But I gotta eat responsably :D

Thank you for your visit Matt.

  6. Taste & Create is so much fun. That’s what I was doing when I did the uStream broadcast. I had never made pasta before. I’m not someone who makes cupcakes very often either — almost never. And when I do, they’re relatively flat. I saw some cute liners in my fav cooking store, and it figures that I’m trying to find a reason to buy them. Guess I’ll have to make some cupcakes, huh? :)
