Soups and Salads — By Ben on 29 October 2007

The temperatures are finally dropping to where they are supposed to be this time of year and that means it is hot-soup season again. And what is better than a healthy, green avocado and spinach soup?

Spinach
Popeye gained his strength from eating spinach, but by following his example you will be protecting yourself against many diseases like osteoporosis, heart disease, colon cancer and arthritis. From March to May, and then again from September to October, you find the freshest spinach. Perfect timing!

What about avocadoes? They can help improve your heart health. They contain folate, a water-soluble B vitamin and an important nutrient to maintain a healthy heart.
They also contain oleic acid, a monounsaturated fat that may help to lower cholesterol and they are a good source of potassium, a mineral that helps regulate blood pressure.

Very healthy, indeed.

  1. Now this is what I need after all that saturated fat yesterday with that Bostini! Actually, we’re quite the lovers of both spinach (I steam it and eat it by itself for lunch) and avocados which are plentiful here all year ’round. We at at Bouchon in Las Vegas recently and my husband had the spinach soup. I’ve been thinking of it since. This just might be on our dinner menu tonight. I’ll let you know how it goes! Oh — and thanks for stopping by my site.

    • Yummy, that Bostini recipe looks so delicious. I don’t think I could ever go on a diet with all those delicious recipes all over the net. LOL. Just a very lousy excuse to keep eating.

Your site is one of my favorite recipe blogs, I always visit it but I am a very quiet guy. Maybe you’ve noticed :-p

      Cheers!

  2. Thanks, Ben. And tonight’s the night. I didn’t have any avocados but now am armed and ready for tonight’s dinner. Can’t wait!
